Project Update

More progress? I don't even know anymore. Uugh. I really NEED to put much more time into this if I want to see any sort of respectable result.

Progress Update

Posted on 16/01 21:33
Got a little tired of the tutorials and figured that just digging into the meat and gristle was the best bet. After toying around with Audiosurf I've decided to make a sort of track racer, a-la F-Zero. So far it has been.... interesting...

Next is to try and figure out how to make it morph into other shapes and whatnot.

Also! Red Book has arrived! It is -LARGE- and I haven't spent too much time with it yet... probably when I get into doing less math and more effects.

Steps for creating Project in VS Pro 2k5

Posted on 15/01 17:53
Step 1: Create new Win32 Project
Step 2: Set Application type as Windows and check Empty Project
Step 3: Open Project Properties (Alt+F7) or (Project -> .. Properties)
Step 4: Under 'Configuration Properties -> General' change Character Set to 'Use Multi-Byte Character Set'
Step 5: Also under 'Configuration Properties -> General' change Output Directory and Intermediate Directory to '\.Debug' to 'Use Multi-Byte Character Set'
Step 6: Under 'Configuration Properties -> Linker -> Input' add 'opengl32.lib glu32.lib glaux.lib odbc32.lib odbccp32.lib' to 'Additional Dependencies'

... Should work. Uugh.

OpenGL Project Countdown!

Posted on 12/01 00:04
I figure I have about a month to get something workable to show off to potential employers, and I've decided to make something with OpenGL as per Nick's suggestion. (Actually he suggested a renderer to be more specific) I have no idea what my end product will be but for now I am trying to drown myself in OpenGL.

Step one was to get the environment all setup, and I believe it's all ready and it took way too long to download VS 2k5 Pro and set PATH vars and whatnot.

Step two is to go through NeHe's Tutorials. So far they have been extremely helpful in allowing me to visualize just how simple OpenGL is. The Windows code stuff seems like a huge pain right now but I'll worry about that later. I've gone through about 10 of them and I believe I have a pretty good grasp. I think I'll spend the weekend going over the rest of the tutorials and maybe tinkering with some of my own ideas.

After that, the Red Book should arrive on Tuesday (Mondays look to be absolutely awful this semester) so I'm hoping to be able to just go straight from NeHe's stuff to that.

So why bother blogging this anyway? I suppose just to keep myself on track and ensure that I get something done while the clock is still ticking (5 weeks!) and keeping track of my progress. The goal is to make a new post every day or two documenting what I've done and setting goals and making plans for the next few days / weeks.

This should prove to be an interesting few weeks to say the least...

Coincidences and Timing are Everything.

Posted on 23/05 23:10
So I went to that Porcupine Tree concert last week, it was cool, I took a vid, etc, whatever.

Then a week later, someone sends me this message via YouTube:

Hello! My name is Bryan Walsh. I'd like to offer my eternal thanks for taking this video and posting it here on youtube. I know this might be hard to believe, but the person SW is talking to after he asks if anyone had been with the band on the West Coast is me.

What he had promised me was that if I made it to Boulder from Anaheim that he would play "A Smart Kid" which is why that was played as the first encore song instead of "Even Less."

I was wondering, first and foremost, if you'd be willing to send me this video somehow so that I may have it on my computer? I would be eternally grateful!

Secondly, I was wondering if you took any additional video of the show, perhaps of "A Smart Kid" being performed? That would more or less blow my mind.

I have this to offer as a bit of proof of what I'm saying:

Thanks for reading, and, either way, thank you so much for making this video available!

Sincerely,
Bryan Walsh

How cool is that?! I sent him the video and all, but I was just amazed that anyone would catch a video which I pretty much left unlabeled and it would be the guy who was being spoken to during the video.

I get an A++ at not studying.

I keep looking at my Probability textbook and shuddering, then I go off and find articles like this one to read. I'm gonna bomb this exam. *sigh*

It took me well over 24 hours to notice the difference between ウ and ワ. I feel retarded.

Sometimes I enjoy programming... and then sometimes, this happens:

Ask me about this sometime. It makes me giggle uncontrollably.
